display scrambled after logout but fine on first boot

I am using component cables on an hdtv with an Xcalibur xbox (1.6).
WHen I boot the loader is scrambled ( I ave not update the loader.xbe yet) but once gentoox boots the screen is fine (overscanned but fine). I can use gentoox, watch videos, etc.
As soon as I logout and the display resets, the screen is scrambled. I do not know what could cause this. Any ideas?
