little help setting up a webserver from lan to internet
I Have already installed apache and phpnuke I can run it local from this ip 192.168.1.13 I have also set up my internet connection sharing and I can ping http://www.yahoo.com and it would give me 66.94.234.13 ...now what I dont get is how will people access the server from internet I heard that using WINGATE on my windows xp will connect both computers in my xover network (2pc only xbox and my windows xp's) into the internet with the same IP so that if its running a server in port 80 it will see the xbox unstead of my windows xp machine.

here are some stats:
Xbox Ip:192.168.1.13
Xbox running:Gentoox Home with Apache2,Mysql,phpnuke
Xbox gateway:192.168.1.10(windows xp computer)
Windows xp running:internet connection sharing (so that the xbox can browse the net)
Thanks for your help!:)

yo,

take a look at http://www.analogx.com/contents/downloa ... mapper.htm

u just need something like the port mapper above to forward incoming requests from port 80 on ure xp machine to your xbox port 80 for example.

stop... stop stop...
do not use windows XP to connect anything to the internet.. what kind of internet connection do you have.. if its dial up agian.. stop..it will be way..way too slow ..

now if you have broadband.. first read your user license.. people like comcast say you cannot server webpages from their service..

next if its ok to do so..
get a internet router with firewall or a box to run something like devilslinux or monowall.

then port forward from the firewall to your web server..
make sure you have turned off.. telnet, rsh and change the port ssh uses (try /etc/ssh/sshd.conf)
if you are going to put things onthe web look up web secuerity or else your box will become the next host to the attacker comming after me.. or worse it will become a ftp site for a music download site an the RIAA will drag you to court..

this might help
