samba shares are no longer accesible from windows

Post by chuckyboy81070 »

hi everyone,

my xbox's samba shares (the \\XBOX\f share, for example) continuously asks for a password and doesn't connect anymore.

for example, when typing in "\\XBOX\f" in the XP Pro run dialog box, pressing Enter, then filling in the user name ("XBOX\root" or just "root") and password, the "Connecting to Xbox" dialog box just keeps popping back up and asking me for the user name and password again. this started after running magic after a new install of gentoox (before running magic, samba shares worked great!). forgive me, if this is addressed somewhere on the site, but i did try and search for it here as well as in the manuals.

thanks everyone, in advance!

to do this log in as root
type
cat /etc/samba/smb.conf
and post the output.

i got it to work, but i had to got to the webadmin, and go to the "Edit Samba User" page and select "New Password". i then typed in the current password for root, hit save and restart the service. worked after that.
