HOW DO YOU SHARE FILES IN GENTOOX??

jahme, are you running PRO or HOME because samba is'nt installed by default on PRO, I think!
If it is home, then on you Windows PC, open up my computer and type in the long address window \\xbox-ip-address it should then pop up a security window. Type in root as the username and xbox as the password, (if you havent changed it) and tick the remember password and thats it.

i typed that but still windows cannot find the address...can u explain to me the exact format?

i got it working by typing smbd and nmbd in shh. before i could not pin"xbox" just the ip. after that i could ping xbox and connect to my shared files.

you haven't set samba to start on boot. Run these commands as root

Code: Select all

rc-update add samba default
killall smbd
killall nmbd
/etc/init.d/samba start

This will make samba start every time you load gentoox.
