problem with proftpd

Post by althena77 »

Hello!!

When I try to run proftpd, I get these error messages:

- getaddrinfo 'Xbox' error: Name or service not known
- warning: unable to determine IP address of 'Xbox'
- error: no valid servers configured
- Fatal: error processing configuration file '/etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf'

It was running fine, until I tried to update it by running "emerge proftpd", but in the case of proftpd it seems not to be that easy.

pico /etc/hosts

Add "my.ip.add.ress Xbox"

eg "192.168.1.13 Xbox"
The original Xbox adaptation of Gentoo

this may or may not sound retarded toyou but how do you save the changes you make with pico? I used to maintain several eggdrop bots in the past that I had to pico some conf files but it's been years since then.

always remember the 'man' command, that gives you the manual/help on the command. Easiest way to get help..

man pico

how would I get proftpd to start on boot? I disabled the one that was built into Gentoox in favor of going with the newer candidate and a gui for it which works better for me in the end just gotta figure out how to get it to boot is all.

also is there some kind of firewall installed with Gentoox that would stop all incoming connections from outside my network?
