I'm at
http://www.winehq.com
It says before installing you must uninstall any previous installs.
does gentoox home come with a earlier version ?
when i download and install, which distro do i choose ?
I do not see gentoo listed, is it based off FreeBSD binary .tgz for FreeBSD 4.8, 4.9, 5.0, 5.1 ?

The -s will search the available packages for anything with wine in them. If that is the correct name then just use the emerge wine
