running mugen

I'm running mugen (customizable 2d fighting game) on gentoox. Has anyone fooled around with this yet? I'm having trouble with the sound. The sound works half the times I load mugen. Does anyone know what can be causing my sound issues? Also, I am currently using pc usb controllers. Are there any reliable drivers for the xbox controllers for use with games on gentoox?
