startup-boot a couple things are not ok

Post by shedt »

I was trying to update xfce, and it worked, but i'm not sure if it was updating the kernal or portage, but it gave me a error.

when i boot up there is 3 or 4 things that are not ok. I remember one i think was a audio component.

if it was a kernal problem, do i just run magic fix kernal ?

i should have done it like this i think

magic xfce && magic

but i did

magic fix xfce && magic.

question, is the second magic just for sync ?

it says i should only sync once a week. since i was getting errors at boot i tried twice, cause magic kept giving me a error. its really small so i could not read the text well.

anyways when i get home i'm going to try and change the text, and run magic..

any suggestions ?

everythig inside gentoox seems cool though.

i'll post what is not ok later.

it went quick so i jotted down what i could.

snd intel 80 80
snd pcm.... and some more text i did not write quick enough

snd mix-os

these there are not ok.

i'm going to run magic fix kernal

after i try to change the terminal font...

hope someone can give me a idea what is going on here ?

-edit-

oh it just finished booting, there is a error pop-up window in genttox-

sound server informational message:
error while initializing the sound driver:

device dev/dsp cannot be opened
the file cannot be found blah blah

sound server will continue using null output device

xfce is different now ( i think that is what is different)

now i have dsktop item trash and home + the panel is different....

my wallpaper changed too....

i'll try and search first...

-edit #2-

I'm in kde....

it's really cool and all, but i want to learn how to switch back to xfce...

i wish i knew how to select which one i use then reboot...

to switch from one to the other type
tokde or toxfce
to fix your sound do
magic fix alsa && magic

the magic fix alsa removes the entry that says alsa has been installed, the second magic the reinstalls it.
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?

thanks

i ended up just replacing all of my files.

i have a stable copy on f: that i just copy over.

it is ok so far,

i'm slowly learning though !

oh, i made 2 usb adaptors :D

keyboard and mouse work awesome !

i also don't find kde that slow, and it has everything !

-question-

kde and xfce are, windows managers ?

can i not boot into them, and use a script lets say to run a program like through wine ?

i'm still trying to figure out how to access my f:

i can mount it, but i don't see it in the file manager.

i'll figure it out though :)
