Problems instaling Best Data 56k USB modem

I installed the modem y emerge the driver and follow the intructions but when I run wvdial so it detecs the moden and made the dial up conectiong it sais no modem detected. SO i star searching and it saids that there is a simbolic link to the modem call modem in /dev/modem and it also creates the real device in dev/ttysl212 or dev/ttySL0 but i can't their of this can some how to fix this or any idea at all. (P.S. The modem works on windows xp and it said that it has suport for linux 2.4.x)
