(Solved) Magic Kernel Upgrade Hangs when compiling

Post by GTez »

Hey all,

I've found that when I run magic, and the kernel comes around to be compiled, it compiles for about 20 minutes then hangs. I've tried 3 or 4 times now, and I can't get through the compile process. Any thoughts or suggestions?

My appologies if I am missing some pertanent piece of info.
The info on my xbox is : Evox Bios + http://xbox.gtez.com/ for system specs.

Cheers!

Do you run magic from root or from su? If you run from su, be sure that you haven't got su set to log you out automatically after a period of time.

Q: HOW DO I RUN MAGIC ??
A: You run magic by not typing in capital letters.

Strange things happen often to me :)
I've found that I had to use the Gentoo Pro edition (no big deal as its going to be a apache2/distcc slave anyways.) And magic had to be run from the console (on the xbox) -- if i ran it from an ssh term it died? Very strange.. Can anyone tihnk of Putty variables that might cause this? As I found it to be the same for my standard Gentoo install on my FileServer

Cheers -
