grable video in home, but no not pro version (picture)

Post by cgt32 »

This is how my screen looks like in home version, there's color.... but only at some part and it's faded too (distorted).
I guess a picture worth a thousand words so here have a look.
Hopefully someone can help me out here.

PS
I'm using ntsc and using the s-video cable.

Garbled Video in Home and not Pro?

Post by ¡Mysto! »

If you are saying you have garbled video in home edition and not pro, then it is almost certainly something to to with xbv

I would suggest trying:

xbv -f NTSC -auto 800 600 15.00 15.00

(You probably don't need the -f)

It is probably because your tv don't take a PAL signal very well, if it is a NTSC TV.

A quick check of the syntax on my X-Box has made me realise I forgot a lot of things

1) Log in as root, or su to root

2) cd /etc/xbv

3) ./xbv -NTSC -auto 800 600 15.00 15.00

Now that might actually work ;)

In fact you would probably be best off, just running xbvset, and choosing the NTSC options

wow!! that worked perfectly, crisp and clear!!
thanks
I think we need to work xbvset a little bit more cause xbv works lots better for me imo.

update:
hmm... funny, it doesn't seem to save that setting cause when I type gnome-session or gdn (I think), the GUI verison of gnome seems to be like that of the picture above now.
Weird.

Mmmmm my xbox is down at the moment (copying pro over) so I cannot check this, but there is a file called .startX i think in /home/gentoox/ I think that might run an xbv command that is setting you back to PAL.....if you are running as root it is probably in /root/

I hope this helps

Just FYI, xbvset is a wrapper for xbv.. all it does is ask for settings, then send them to xbv on boot. If you dont use xbvset, youll have to reset xbv each time you reboot.
