Uninstall Software

Post by mkbm »

Hi,

I think that the KDE is very slow. So I want to delete every desktop tool (kde, gnome, xfce,...) and only want that the xbox starts to the console...so I can ssh to it from my computer.

I know that I can boot to console with changing the init level but I want to uninstall the kde.

Can anyone help me please?

you have two choices
the best option would be to download Pro and use that

however if you have loads of installed software that you want to keep then just unmerge the packages you don't want.
"emerge unmerge packagename"
As far as I can tell it is very tricky to get rid of all software and it's dependencies.
if you do "emerge -s kde" you will see which kde packages are installed and need removing. Same with xfce4, you also need to edit your /etc/conf.d/local.start file and remove the reference to gdm
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?
