gentoo doesn't come with VIM either, you have to install it. The reason for this is that VI is a bloated waste of time.
Code: Select all
etcat -v vim
[ Results for search key : vim ]
[ Candidate applications found : 5 ]
Only printing found installed programs.
* app-editors/vim :
[ ] 6.3-r2 (0)
[M~ ] 6.3-r4 (0)
[M~ ] 7.0_alpha20050122 (0)
[M~ ] 7.0_alpha20050126 (0)
[M~ ] 7.0_alpha20050201 (0)
etcat -v vi
[ Results for search key : vi ]
[ Candidate applications found : 3 ]
Only printing found installed programs.
* app-editors/vi :
[ ] 3.7-r4 (0)

Most people don't need to learn the power of vim, they just want to edit text fileshvwees wrote:It was not my intention to make this a big threas but, when I installed Gentoo on my other boxes Vim WAS included.
The advantage of all *nix like os-es is that there is always VI or VIM, too bad gentoo doesn't fit this thought.
Some people will never learn the power of VIm.
Code: Select all
