Gentoox on 1.6 w/ Cisco IDS

Hi all,
I have a 1.6 xbox with a Xenium SP ICE Mod chip, I installed Gentoox and soon will have Cisco IDS to run on my home network.
Any suggestions to make the system more secure and more effective as an intrusion detection system would be appreciated.
