Magic back up, new loader ready! --- slow server

Post by vplayer »

Hi,

http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/ ... distfiles/

updating the new loader and magic took a long time.. and now I see for other installs like wine and stuff it gets the update from this server and its slow, it tries about 4 times (timed out about 6 times during my update ) to get to download.

:) not that i am whining.... maybe its something shallax can tune up..

No, thats something YOU tune up... thats nothing to do with magic or me, thats a Gentoo server. "mirrorselect -a -s4 -D"
The original Xbox adaptation of Gentoo

This is a gentoo mirror at the university of twente in the Netherlands, if this is not your nearest mirror then you should pick a new one. The full list is here you put it in /etc/make.conf

Find the line that says

GENTOO_MIRRORS you can use ctrl+W to search in nano/pico if the line is commented out (# at the start) remove the # then simply add the full url of the mirror(s) you want to use seperated by spaces, I live in the UK and my line looks like this.

Code: Select all

GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://www.mirrors.ac.uk/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/gentoo/"
You can also use mirrorselect but I find it's just a waste of time.
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?
