Extraction of rootfs during installation takes forever!

Post by Elrond »

Ive been trying to install pro 1.4 on a 400gb hdd (LBA48) using a native installation:

after 7 hours:
Extracting from /mnt/temp/distro.rar

Extracting gentooxx.xbe OK
Extracting initrd.gz OK
Extracting linuxboot.cfg OK
Extracting rootfs 37%
At first I thought it was the classic errors such as bad media etc so i replaced the media and redownloaded the pro 1.4 and checked the md5sum, all perfect.

Then i tried with different medias which has worked in the past for other apps. Same problem

Then i figurered it was my thompson drive which was messed up so i tweaked the pot(not really that hard as people make it out to be if you know how to measure ohms). After the tweak i had the same problem.

Then i ctrl+c the stardust and copied the file manually to /mnt/native and then cd /mnt/e and then unrar e /mnt/native and its still slow!!! But the copy from cd to the hdd went pretty fast(so nothing wrong with hdd speed).

Any idea what is causing the rootfs extraction to be this slow?

Think ive tried everything any tip or hint would be nice.

You need to have seperate F and G drives for gentoox to work on an LBA48 drive
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?

Umm no. I actually did manage to get it installed, for some reason my xbox doesnt like extracting the rar so i put it on my pc and ftped down the file and manually installed it following the bash script on stardust.iso

Its possible, and doable, i have my xbox to prove it. But thanks anyways buddy.

As i recall when you do native installation its okay to just have an f drive :P
