Bug in Home version- Hangs at Network Initializing

Post by cyberfreak95 »

After searching the postings I see that many other people have had this problem as well. It hangs during the install. I loaded the Pro version and it goes through just fine. I am using the M7 Evox bios, I see that some ppl have had the problem with other BIOSes as well.

I should probably add that I attempted re-downloading the iso, but like I said the Pro ISO install worked great, it's the home installer that hangs.

Hi,

on my 1.5 xbox with xbit and the BIOS provided with Gentoox Pro 1.3d, the network initialisation hangs with pro and home. With the BIOS from the home.rar it works (but i want focus support :) )

You only need a focus bios to get focus support on the bootloader, after that any bios will do.

Being determined to get this thing loaded I expanded distro.rar, then used xboxisotool to create an xbox iso image from it, burned the image to a dvd and then used xcommander (in evox) to manually copy the files to my e:\ drive.

After that I was able to boot Gentooxx no problem and the NIC worked fine.

As a side note, I have my bios configured to automatically run e:\gentooxx.xbe on boot, so my xbox boots right to linux.

It's a really slow way to do it, but it worked.

Being a linux user for quite a long time I noticed that KDE starts WAY slower then it would on a normal 733MHz PC. Not sure why, but overall it's pretty cool.

not really the forum to discus this, but the reason for the slow boot is two fold
a) lack of RAM
b) loopback filesystem

Also, if you want to boot straight to linux you may as well just flash the gentoox bootloader on to your modchip.

Ive pinpointed this before to being down to the use of illegal BIOSes/ dashboards. If you use the Gentoox Loader ROM (not the XBE), you should have no problems.

Hi,

I don't use illegal software, just gentoox pro and your cromwell version on my xbit modchip.

I just found out that network detection works well when I start the installation from evox, strange.
