Installing GentooX on an unmodded Xbox

Hi,

Can anyone tell me whether GentooX can be installed on an unmodded Xbox? My plan is to use the MechAssult Installer [http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/] to get a linux installed on an ummodded Xbox, then replace with a full distro, and I like the look of Gentoo....

Will Stardust work as an installer for this situation?

Sure can. In fact, some consider that the "1337357" way to do it.

I used 007 hack to get phoenix bootloader using audio hack installed, and once phoenix is in, you basically have a modded xbox.

"Pheonix bootloader Audio Hack" --> That wouldn't be Mordens_Audio_hack_007_V2 would it? If so, I would use the MechAssult version, since I have MA....

Check the "DashBoard Exploit" section.

I use the font exploit.

The MechInstaller trick didn't work for me with Gentoox. Attempts to load disc (two different burns) screen flickers and reloads to Xbox screen. After a few minutes the led goes red and it says the system needs service. Might be bad media but the same CD-R's and writer worked perfectly with Xebian two hours prior. FYI.

The 007 trick does not require any mod chips? Just save the file onto xbox, start the game, load the file and its complete? Then just run Stardust? or is it more complicated. [/quote]
