xbox mce 1.3 with new blank hd

Hello,
I want to install MCE 1.3 on the Xbox ( flashed with Cromwell 2.40 Bios and
none modchip).
If I use the MCE 1.3 install CD there will be an error "unable to mount device E (read/write)".
All atempts to prepare Harddisk were to no avail.
I m using xboxhdm_v1.7.zip and start it on PC with my Harddisk
at primary master IDE. Start xboxhd, mkfs.fatx but if I us this Harddisk in
mx Xbox the Bios told me no fatx partition and no MBR found.
Can anybody help me?
