Status of ac3/dts passthrough support

Post by phunqe »

Hi,

I was searching the forum on this but I couldn't find a conclusive answer.
What is the status on ac3 and DTS passthrough support?

I use spdif exclusively and more or less all my movies are ac3, so I would like to know this before I install :)

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

There's definetley no DTS support, I haven't been able to get AC3 to work either, although I've not tried the latest version.

The digital out is active but I just get a mirror of what's being sent through the analogue.
If you keep an open mind, will your brain fall out?

The latest version is just cosmetic, so nothing has changed. No one is working on adding DTS/AC3 to alsa.. so I think we're stuck with how it is for now.

Damn. Thanks for the info however :)

EDIT:

I looked around on the net a bit regarding ALSA and ac3 passthrough.
I'm not so familiar with alsa and mplayer specifics, but it seems to be working on PCs. Is this a specific soundcard problem (i.e the "soundcard" in the xbox)?

I've seen some solutions with the ac3dec alsa tools and also a specific mplayer commandline:

mplayer -ao alsa[version]:spdif -ac hwac3 somemovie.avi
