As far as the media center.. currently its mythtv and mplayer. The Gentoox portion is just the standard Gentoox.... so that has all the apps that youd find in either Home or Pro.

Benchmarking, well on a DreamX 1480, I believe it takes about 2.5 hours to rip AND transcode a DVD and 20 minutes just to rip it. On a standard Xbox, 4-6 hours to rip AND transcode a DVD, 40 minutes just to rip it. While its ripping you're free to watch another video or play MP3s... you can even play the DVD while its ripping (though playback will be choppy).

I'm not sure what else you want to know.

hey I'm a n00b an all(I say that likes it's a good thing), well not 2 XBOX, just to well anything Linux Related, but I'm def not a n00b 2 video encoding(not an expert), but I am curious of what CodeC(s) are avail 2 encode DVDs 2, is their a Choice? or is it direct 2 MPEG1/2?

also since I havn't had the chance 2 use MCE yet, I was curious if it encludes a bitrate calculator? if not that could be useful, first you'd have 2 rip the video, and the on the Transcode Settings screen, you'd have the Calculator as Default, and Advanced as another Option, it would automaticlly know the Video Length, and all you'd have 2 enter is the Audio Quality You want(Birate, CBR/VBR, ect), then with video, you'd select Codec, if u want Multipass, or singlepass transcoding, and Total File size, say you wanted it to later fit onto a 80 min Cd, so you'd select 716,000kb(1Kb=1024bytes), and it would previde you with the Bitrate of the Video, say 800kbps overall for CBR, and min/max/average for Mulitpass Transcoding

also another question is, when u say 4-6 hours onna stock XBOX, is that singlepass or Multipass, or have u gone that far into development on the DVD Rip/Transcode Feature
