Open a console (terminal window) and type 'magic'. You have to be connected to the internet for Magic to work. (If you aren't already connected, see networking tutorial).

I re-installed Gentoox and chose 'yes' for all of the options during the install (Samba, ftp, etc.) Now VNC works. I believe I had chosen no to all of these the first time that I installed Gentoox.

Xorg patch failed for me, too. So I completely deleted/ uninstalled Gentoox and reinstalled from the beginning. The Xorg patch worked then. Fortunately I had taken notes on most of my settings, network settings, etc. I don't know if there is a way to make the patch work without re-installing, as nob...

xorg failed

The script exits at the xbox-20041024.patch line: 9990_x86_6.8.9.0-xbox-20041024.patch . . . Failed Patch: 9990_x86_6.8.9.0-xbox-20041024.patch! There is a lengthy log file. The first error in the log file looks like this: (I abbreviated it somewhat) . . . patching file xc/config/cf/xorg.cf Hunk #7 ...

The video in question plays fine on XBMC and on my computer.

I have notiiced that transcode has a -k switch which will reverse red/blue. I wonder if there is something similar for mplayer . . .

Playing avi file in Mplayer on Gentoox w/ 1.6 xbox, red and blue are reversed. I have blueberry people and the sky is always a sunset scene. Any thoughts?

Alright, I'll keep trying. I thought there was a whole tutorial on the subject, as Shallax has this message: http://gentoox.shallax.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=33 "Tutorial: Fixed the VNC tutorial - it works now!!!" Among others that seem to refer to a "VNC tuto...

Yeah, I did see that. I was hoping there was something a bit more in depth. Anyway, for some reason that doesn't work for me. I'll have to keep trying. Recheck my settings and all that.

"Then read the manual for Gentoox for connecting" Which manual? I can't seem to find the tutorial. The reference in the 3.2 manual doesn't work for me, as there is no /etc/init.d/vnc file. I have run all of the magic patches, as well. I'm stumped.

This is useful information. It sounds like you were able to get TightVNC working eventually. I would like to do this, too. Could you give me some details on your installation? (What did you emerge/ install on xbox, what version are you running on PC, etc.)

Thanks. I did try the bridge thing, however, I admit that I did not pursue/ debug that as far as I did the other attempted connection methods. When I first did the bridge I lost internet on my PC, and at 3:00 a.m. I was too tired to deal with it any more. Next day I decided to look into proxies. Fou...

Thanks. I have used Putty to rescue my Gentoox installation after I f-d up my video settings. I'm sure TightVNC will work, too. I'll try it now. I was hoping there was some way of having windows span desktops or something like that, then I could flip between desktops to see the whole dialog box. Eit...

Scroll Fixed Size Dialog Boxes?

I have installed DVD::RIP (http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/doc/gui.cipp) on my 1.6 'box with XFCE/ Gentoox. Unfortunately the dialog boxes all go off the bottom of the screen. They do not have scroll bars, and I cannot resize them using shift+alt+arrows because they are fixed size. Am I S.O.L? I'd like ...

PC internet connection with x-over cable to xbox: Solution

I made this work so I thought I'd share. My config: 1. Win XP PC with NIC card and wireless receiver PCI card. (Internet is via 802.11g next door) 2. Crossover cable between XBOX and NIC card. 3. Shallax networking tutorial: http://gentoox.shallax.com/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&...
