Can anyone provide their experience with the 128MB upgrade? Does it make a big difference in compile time or speed running xfce? I've got problems with pan (newsgroup reader if you're not familiar with it) at the moment. When I try to load the headers for a newsgroup with a ton of headers (>100,000 ...

I have a degree in computer engineering, so the soldering doesn't scare me =) It's just trying to find the damn chips that's a pain.

I think I remember seeing somewhere that the chips sell for $5 or $6 bux each. So 4 of em would be under $30. Guess $40 isn't bad for the set. Especially since there's nowhere to buy em cheaper it seems. Unless I can find someone with an otherwise fried old MB to sell me.

If you can find a USB HW MPEG2 encoder, I imagine the xbox could take care of the rest, but I'm not sure if they exist.

128MB RAM Upgrade

I'd really like to get my hands on a set of ram chips to upgrade to 128MB. ROBzombie mentioned here that you can get the chips from an old "LEADTEK - WINFAST GeForce 2 Pro 64MB AGP 4x". However, the key word in there is "old" =) Anyone know either someone who's still selling thos...

I've never set up wlan before, but there do seem to be a couple wlan config files. Look at

Code: Select all

/etc/conf.d/wlan.conf
/etc/conf.d/wlancfg-DEFAULT
/etc/init.d/wlan

Take a look at /opt/glftpd/ftp-data/users/glftpd and look for the line: IP *@127.0.0.1 Change that line to *@* and try again. First, though, you should change glftpd's password so that anyone else trying to connect to your box can't log in (which is why it's set to localhost only in the first place).

I'm also a little confused on where the 16 came from... Dunno if 100MBit means 100,000,000 bps or that times some number of 1024's, but even then 16,000,000/1024 still doesn't make 12... Anyways, I seem to get varying speeds now and it depends largely on what PC ftp client I'm using. Windows command...

Seems to be better after I emerged (though I don't think I emerged anything that would have been related to ftp). Up to ~2000kB/s now. Still not amazing for 100mbit, but good enough for me =)

Failure while compiling kdelibs

This was mentioned in this post but not solved. I get this error when emerging kdelibs: `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.3.2-r2/work/kdelibs-3.3.2/kdeprint/tools/escputil'make[4]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.3.2-r2/work/kdelibs-3.3.2/kdeprint/tools' make[4]: Nothing to be done for `all...

Right, but the drivers should still pick up the correct device (USB100TX, not USB10TX) I would have thought. Even if I plug it into my 100mb switch, it still picks it up as USB10TX.

Wierd, says it supports the USB100TX in the docs, though. I'm only connecting it to a 10mb cable modem so I guess I don't care =)
