I've never installed it, but normally you would emerge unmerge kde (and all the rest kde-base etc) As far as I am aware, you have to unmerge all the libraries etc manually. I guess you could get rid of most of it that way .... I'd backup my config files from /etc and reinstall just the 'pro' version...

If I remember correctly the gentoo HOW-TO says to do it, but after reading some threads on gentoo's forums, I didn't.

alsa won't load though. Do I have to magic that in again? i've built modules again, but it doesn't appear to work ...

also i2c all fail on boot, do I need magic again?
