It seems I was operating under the false assumption that aRts was packaged with KDE. It is, however, by itself in the portage tree. On top of that, I'd already emerged it via having added "arts" into my USE flags in make.conf ages ago. It doesn't seem to be destroying my system resources a...

Do I need an alternative to the ALSA mixer?

From what I can gather, the xbox uses Nvidia's NForce for audio. As there are no complete alsa drivers for this, mixing is impossible without an intermediate software layer.. like arts. Please correct me if I'm wrong in thinking this. As I use XFCE, is there anything other than arts I can use, that ...

I found the adaptor ($13 CDN) was much cheaper than a new keyboard & mouse (~$50 CDN).

I bought a ps/2 to usb adaptor.. connects a ps/2 mouse and keyboard to one usb slot.. then hacked it apart and connected it to an xbox extension cord. I don't really know how you'd go about making the adptor itself, but it's definately possible. This thing works like a charm.

gentoox won't run in hdtv mode

I just got my X2VGA in the mail and tried to set it up. However, whenever I set up the xbox dash to accept hdtv modes, when I try and boot gentoox (using gentooxx.xbe) the fan (or dvd drive, not sure which) spins up like a tornado, and the box shutts off. I believe I have a 1.1 ntsc box. Has anyone ...

Your PC is sharing it's internet connection? (I'm guessing you use windows with ICS, right?) Can you ping your PC from the xbox?

Also, you want to have just gentoox on the xbox, right? You don't want to use it for playing xbox games?

1. The attitude isn't getting you anywhere.

2. How is your network set up? Can you ping other sites on the internet, just not this one FTP?

Looks like we've got another one, eh Trogdor? I do hate to see people banned.

Dear Ylanday69,
If it would please you to describe the errors you mentioned, we would appreciate it very much, and it would greatly facilitate our ability to aid you.
Thanks very much for your time.

No sound control in xmms

I can (seemingly out of the blue) no longer control volume in xmms. EQ works fine, but the volume control doesn't work at all, no matter what combination of output settings I use :\ I had this problem with my PC a while back, and after emerging a new something or other it fixed itself, but I'm not s...
