Now don't get me wrong I've tried many versions of xbox linux and have come to end up using gentoox, but that is because it is right for me. It sounds however like you might be more suited to be using X-DSL

This sounds as if you have installed it correctly to me. As you are doing a pro install you will not have a window manager installed as standard so it has booted to the point of logging into you install. You now need to either attach a usb keyboard or ssh into you gentoox installation to install any...

Just a couple of ideas for you to look into! Firstly in gentoox open up a terminal window and check your gentoox's networking by using the command ifconfig, check the ip address etc restart the ftp server to make sure it is running fine sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd stop sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd start No...

What type of install are you performing, e, f or native? (I presume you are not performing the FTP install by the installation messages!) 'e' - You must have 4.5GB free on your E: drive. 'f' - You must have 4.5GB free on your F: drive and 650MB free on your E: drive. The 650MB on E: is just used dur...

I would try reburning the iso to a media that you know is fine with your perticular dvd drive (eg DVD-R) with the verify option set in your burning software. If this still fails it is worth checking the md5 checksum with that on the main site. (google md5 checksums if in doubt!)

Not offering it as a service to all but if you really want it doing and you are prepared to source RAM chips, send just the motherboard and for pay return postage let me know in the new year as I have to do this on my second Xbox so could do it at work at the same time!

proftpd is a ftp server that runs in the background so it is normal that you do not see anything!

If you fisrtly swich to use the root user ("su -" then type the admin password), your e:\ drive should be accessible through the path /mnt/fatx/e. If it is not accesible like this try running "magic" (again as root!) in a terminal window to update your gentoox and receive the fat...

I'm guessing that your computers network card is configured to automatically determine its own IP address at start up, I am also guessing that your router has the IP address 192.168.0.1 (usual default) so..... turn off your computer; turn off your xbox; restart your xbox and let it boot upto the log...
