Madcatz = no good :(

I had the same problem when I first did it. Took me awhile to realize that the madcatz controller was to blame. Have to get a microsoft one (or maybe a different 3rd party one, not sure)

emerge actually downloads the source package of the latest tested build, compiles it from scratch and replaces your existing installation, so yes, it saves it and you will only have to do it once. I wouldn't bother at all, though, as the firefox that comes included with the release should work just ...

I've never done an install that wasn't native, so I'll get someone else to comment on that, but as far as firefox/flash goes, isn't flash a plugin that's installed on the fly anyways? If that's the case, it'll install the latest one when you go to view the video. Also, if you want the latest version...

Yes, you can browse with firefox if you install Gentoox, and no, if you install the "Home" version (not "Pro") you'll get a fairly up-to-date version of firefox that will do what you're looking for. If your xbox hardware is a version 1.6 (made in the last few years), though, you might have some over...

grep -ri "xorg\.conf" /etc

Run that as root and see if it turns up any scripts that generate xorg.conf on boot and find out where they get it from.

Short of something there, you'll have to get help from someone who knows more about it. I don't run x-windows =/

Not really familiar with how it's generated, but given that there's xorg.conf.header and xorg.conf.footer present in /etc, I assume those are used as the head and tail and the center of the file is generated. Try adding your line to xorg.conf.header or footer and see if it appears in the final xorg....

Based on Shallax's comment in another thread, the only issue with 2.6 kernel is that it's missing fatx drivers (or they don't work or something). If you have a native install, then I guess it should be fine. I know that people have or do run 2.6.

Keep in mind that the update system on gentoo compiles from source, so if you're gonna need the x-server anyways, might think about grabbing home and stripping it down. It takes day(s) to compile some of the packages on an xbox. I assume you have a larger HDD in there so a few more installed package...

Why do you need 2.6 kernel for rtorrent? I use it all the time on my 2.4 kernel with no problems and decent speed. In any case, I think there might be an issue or two with the 2.6 kernel, and maybe with it and the fatx file system, but someone else will have to comment on that. Otherwise, for keepin...

ok i think i fixed the blocked package problem What did you do to fix it? Did you remove a package that might have been required? It looks like you're trying to build apache2-ant, but it requires java and you don't have any java environment installed. Google the requirements for the ant-core packag...

The project you're talking about is probably gonna be difficult for you, based on your knowledge of computers. Since you don't even know what linux is, installing and configuring it might be a challenge. It's another operating system that you can run, similar to windows on your PC. If you modify the...

No, it's definitely nothing to do with your guide or the steps in it. It's a bug somewhere (I assume) in the fatx drivers, as it's only when copying from the FATX rootfs mounted file system that I saw the crash. Since then, with native partitions, I haven't seen any problems.

I did a native install following cheesyboofs tutorial (another thread). There's an issue (also described in several other threads) that prevents copying the whole file system in one go for some reason. It'll crash every so often. Just copy it bit by bit and if it fails, delete the last bit and try a...

I think there must be some kind of issue with either your xbox or with whatever other box you're using to test the transfer speed. With mine, I've seen closer to 20-40mbit/s depending on the application.
