yeah home is gentoox with some already precompiled goodies such as xfree, kde (i believe), mplayer and a few other common linux applications. Pro is a barebones system designed for those who know (or think they know) what they are doing and know exactly what they want on their gentoox box. Basically...

XFCE4 on startup
Hi all, I've managed to install xfree, xfce4 and some other things.. now what i'd really like is a windows style (not necessarily looking the same...) logon screen when gentoo boots, that will bring up xfce4 upon logon with the different user settings intact. Does anyone know of a good program to us...

emerge -u portage
so here's the end-all-to-be-all question for the forum (and more then likely nobspangle :), I just started from scratch (again lol) and then did a magic, installed xfree, mplayer, keybrd, and the rest of the magic goodness.. BUT Then I did a emerge -u portage (because it told me to), I know when thi...

Ok this is getting rediculous!
Wow, I've been more then patient so far but NOW I'm getting angry. After I broke my local.start and local.stop files with etc-update, I decided to start over from scratch. So I started with a fresh install of Gentoox Pro. After the magic updates which included an install of Xfree86, the keyboard, mp...

A lesson in learning
for everyone out there like me that didn't bothered to read the bright and clear text after your first emerge sync, you should probably follow those directions and emerge -u portage, then emerge -u world. I just attempted to emerge apache mod_php php and I got this funny little error saying the ExtU...

broke my local.start & local.stop
I seemed to have broke my local.start and local.stop files after I did a etc-update that gentoox told me was necessary, umm, i'm running gentoox with xfree86, ice wm, tightvnc, mplayer, magic up-to-date etc. I'd really just like it to start the x server and jump into ice wm with the vnc server runni...

oy vei its apache problems day
i hope this doesn't double post! :) I've just attempted to install apache using the following command, emerge apache mod_php php here's the result, !!! Error: the <dev-perl/ExtUtils-MakeMaker-6.05-r6 package conflicts with this package and both can't be installed on the same system together. I'm cur...

Windows Internet Connection Sharing uses basically a DHCP server to assign client computers an IP and give them a DNS server to use to resolve hostnames. So why don't you set Gentoox to use DHCP? Instead of configuring everything yourself, let it try to automatically set the network up for you? here...
