I FIGGERED IT OUT
ldconfig was skipping the gcc libraries because: /etc/env.d/gcc/config had the current gcc compiler as 3.2.3, but the directory is 3.3.2 SO the last env-update put the 3.2.3 entry into /etc/ld.so.conf (I guess) I edited /etc/env.d/gcc/config and /etc/ld.so.conf to use the 3.3.2 instead of the non-ex...

Still it doesn't emerge.
I tried the ldconfig and the magic fix commands that were advised, but still it does not help. As I am new to the whole Gentoo snapshot and emerge thing, I will put off that avenue as a resort slightly before wiping the hard drive and reinstalling. Here is the exact message when I try to run emerge:...

After magic sync'ing to the lastest, I ran emerge -u portage. My xbox choked on compiling one of the dependencies, unceremoniously dumping me back to the command line. Now whenever I try to execute emerge -u portage or magic sync or even just "man emerge" I get the following error (this is...
