The link gives me a "connection refused" error... My memory usage is "58028k total, 56232k used, 1796k free". I guess that's normal given the limited memory of the standard Xbox. Maybe the Pro version of GentooX would be a better choice? EDIT: The link works now... I see you must have rebooted... AN...

You can change the default runlevel by editing "/etc/inittab". Although I would say that this doesn't only disable KDE, but other services too.

Also, my default runlevel is set to 3, so maybe you're thinking of a different 'nix?

I swear by Maxtors too, I've never had one fail. Fujitsu drives have given us hell at work, so I wouldn't touch them. I've just bought a 120GB Western Digital for my MythTV box. I hadn't heard about any problems with them, but regardless - for the sake of a few quid, I should have stayed with a Maxt...

I'd say that you're right... php doesn't seem to be installed. I get the following...

Code: Select all

Xbox root # ls /usr/lib/apache2/extramodules/
libphp4.so mod_ssl.so

Just to clarify, I had to add the following lines to "/etc/apache2/conf/apache2.conf" (if I remember correctly, it was a few weeks ago now...) LoadModule php4_module extramodules/libphp4.so AddType application/x-httpd-php .php :) EDIT: I've just had a play, and hashed out those lines from my apache ...

I still can't get PHP to work on my box. I've got everything installed. Apache shows the default .htm page, but index.php just shows the file source. I've checked my conf files, followed three tuts on installing. And get nothing. apache2 status shows running, but webmin has the X and gives an error...

Attempting to backup native Home install over a network...

I'm trying to backup my native GentooX Home v4.0 "G drive" install over a network, using my Sun Ultra5 (running Solaris 9) with an external DDS-2 tape drive. After setting up ssh, I use the following command to back up "/var"... tar -czvf - /var | ssh root@sunserver "dd of=/dev/rmt/0cbn" Everything ...

I think you need to add your Xserver to the allowed list (where "XSERVERHOST" is the IP/hostname of your X client)...

# DISPLAY=XSERVERHOST:0.0
# export DISPLAY
# xhost XSERVERHOST
# xterm

You should get an xterm appear on your client Xserver. Works for me, anyway.

I did the exact same thing with GentooX Home, and lost my F partition. That's why I did the installs on a fresh hard disk, so it didn't matter if I lost anything. I'd recommend anyone not to partition and format disks with valuable data on, without being either 100% confident in what you are doing, ...

Magic failure on Home v3.2

I have Home v3.2 installed natively in the "G Drive" area of my 160GB hard disk, and it seems to be running smoothly. However, when trying to run magic, I get the following... Gentoox Magic (c) ShALLaX (gentoox@shallax.com) Be sure to check http://gentoox.shallax.com regularly for updates! ---------...

Yep, GentooX is great. I wouldn't have really used any port of Gentoo if it weren't for ShALLaX. Excellent stuff.

I'm getting this, too. I can live with it, as a CTRL-ALT-F1 will give me a login that I can use to reboot.

I'd like to get it sorted though, if anyone knows how! :)

Cheers,
