I understand where trog is comming from, first time I read his sig i couldn't help but laugh. sure emacs is pretty good, but its the biggest editor i've ever installed. it would be the equiv. of a swiss army knife of software.

I tried emerge fluxbox, but i got an error at the end..... so y isnt it working for me?? also try searching in gentoo.org, as gentoox is a port of that, and you may find your error is in there. if not its gentoox specific ... is it this one by any chance? http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=77...

this is where i would usually tell you what file to edit, but as ive been told.. use magic :) thats what its there for. if you type: 'magic usage' you get a list of some different options. one is: - To switch windowmanager to XFCE, run 'magic xfce' :) that should work. assuming you have it installed...

now that the reg thing is clarified.. WTF is a "tax disc" in the mini mags i read (pommy of course) you can by tax discs for your mini? is this something like our rego stickers or? i have NFI :) id RTFM but i can't find the manual, i think the BOFH took it off line, id ask but he'd tell me...

what kind of car do you have shallax? i've heard MOT can be hell..

I've edited /etc/ssh/ssh_config and added ForwardX11 yes. i've then used the -X flag in ssh. depending on the ssh client you need to enable X forwarding there too. what X client/server are you using on your PC? only other suggestion i can think of is messing around with the X Forwarding stuff in web...

scooby, i agree that ext3 is safer for boot, it has always served me well in the past and has more of a tendancy to recover then other filesystems. it is a little slower the reiserFS, but as you say if its just your boot partition, its not going to effect much in the way of performance. you'd be correct in assuming you need root access to edit the net file, luckily this is easy enough to achieve. you have a few options here, you can: 1). open a terminal and su from kde while logged in as gentoox. 2). you can log out of kde, return to a console login prompt and log in to kde as root...
