It must be a dependency of whatever you're emerging, same goes for the other two packages. Python is an open source programming language. See |here| for infoa bug in gentoox or not but if you just type "emerge icewm-tools" a program called "python" is also emerged.

I am happy with my current installation as I have made several changes and don't really want to have to do them again! There is no reason to replace a Gentoo installation if it's working well, IMHO. As long as you keep it sync'd and updated a Gentoo system is always the current version. That said, ...

Try this; I've never tried it, but it looks like what you're seeking. For more information on how to install, or emerge, programs with Gentoo's package manager Portage consult this link.
Code: Select all
emerge icewm-tools

how does portage decide which new config files to copy into /etc? Yes it's a Gentoo specific decision, but it's user/portage configurable. One can specify directories, such as /etc, that will not allow configs to be overwritten. It [portage] renames the new ones to ._cfg-whatever as you mentioned. ...

I don't have Home version so I can't test for you, but I expect rc-update del xvkbded (then reboot) would work, unless Shallax has done things unGentoo'ishly (uhh, yes that's a word ;) ). I haven't tried the magic no-keyboard script either, so I can't speculate why it may have failed in your instanc...

use different hostnames so your router may assign a different IP I think I could back you up here by mentioning my $.02 worth... My ISP assigns an IP by MAC (ignores hostname), and it remains the same for Evox and Gentoox. Hence I would agree it seems to be related to hostname. Out of curiousity, c...

more for you to protect yourself from yourself than to protect you from others. As someone who ran a box as nothing but root for ~1yr I couldn't agree more. You'll screw your system with a typo that you didn't even notice ;) I think it's a combination of the two that'll get you for sure in time. It...
