Is there a limit to the size HDD(s) you can use with Gentoox

This may have been covered before, but I searched, and came up with nothing. I ask because a friend is asking me to put two 500gb HDD's in his Xbox to use it as a server. I mine, I have a 320gb, and a 250gb, and have never had a problem. So basically, what I'm asking is: does GentooX automatically f...

The why question can only be answered by saying, "Becuase it works that way". I have no idea what I clicked when I first installed the second HDD. And forgive my ignorance, but how is the second HDD not a "G" drive? C: MS D: DVD E: MS F: Linux G: 2nd HDD I do see how it shouldn't...

You should be looking in /etc/fstab for the umask options. Have you restarted samba since configuring it? Id stop using Webmin, if I were you. Configure it through SSH. Yes. I've restarted the Samba server. I do that after every change. I don't have a TV hooked up to this Xbox. Everything I've ever...

Is /mnt/fatx/g mounted with umask=0000 ? Ok. You got me. I have no idea how to check this. I tried looking in hardware tab, and then into "Partitions on local disks". But it didn't show me this info. Where should I be looking? On a side note. I just attempted to give the usernames "G...

Theyre on "g" according to your screenshot. If theyre not, then you have your shares setup to point to the wrong path... hence your error. lol. A guy here at work just called me out on the fact that the folders are on the G drive (as per the screenshot). I guess my memory didn't serve me ...

Is /mnt/fatx/g mounted with umask=0000 ? I have no idea. I'm at work right now. I'll check that when I get home tonight. However, not all of the shares are on the G drive. In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, I think the "Craig" and "Jeremy" shares are on the F drive. (tha...

Samba shares not complying with the access rights.

I have numerous shares within my Samba server. I had them all set so that only I had read/write access, everyone else only had read access. Now I have 2 roomates, and I'd like to give them access to their own folders on the server. So they can put whatever they want on the thing. However, when I do ...

I tried doing it that way, and got nowhere. I don't doubt that it's correct. But with the combination of me being so new to this, and the screen not really being legible, nothing worked for me. By default the XBox got the following network configuration: IP = 192.168.2.17 Netmask = 255.255.255.0 Bro...

I deleted/reinstalled GentooX.

Now I just need to play around and see if I can set the static IP I need.

Thanks for your input guys.

Ok. Try breaking this down to me as though I were a 12yr old girl. I'm pretty much retarded when it comes to Linux. I'm inputting text via the Xbox controller, on a 19" TV. I can't really read anything that's on the screen because it's too blurry. I clicked the "B" button on the deskt...

I've managed to F-up my IP configuration.

I had internet connectivity when I first set up this Xbox. Since then I've set a static IP via the Webmin. All was well for months. Then today I realized I have no internet connectivity on this box. So I went back to the Webmin to revert back to the default DHCP. But what I did was hit "delete&...

Solution:

I formatted the F:

Went back, and found my old DVD (that I used on the first server like 3 or 4 months ago), reinstalled Gentoox the exact same way. (both said XBE V5.11).

...now it works.

All is well in this neighborhood.

Yes. I did a native installation to the F: The one I downloaded was..... Gentoox Home Description: The Home Edition is slightly bigger than the Pro Edition but it includes all the software you would expect from a well rounded distribution. Remember to run "magic" to keep it up to date! Ver...
