So it's really as simple as this command in the terminal?

Code: Select all

mkdir -p $HOME/.kde/socket-$(hostname)
What should I type where it says (hostname)? Obviously whatever the host name is, but I have no idea.

Orochi, I did what you said, but I think it's still launching the old version. If it is not launchin the old version, then there is a horrible bug with the program. Everytime I try to message somone or they try to message me, Gaim just crashes and prints in the terminal: Can't create mcop directory ...

Ok thanks everyone it's all resolved. SSH to box, ran magic, did what it said with emerge --metadata, and it's all fine and good. I just need to figure out why gaim crashes when I try to talk to someone or someone messages me.

Ok, I did what you said Lenny, and it gives me this error: --- 'profiles/arch.list' is empty or not available. Empty portage tree? --- 'profiles/updates' is empty or not available. Empty portage tree? !!! ARCH is not set... Are you missing the /etc/make.profile symlink? !!! Is the symlink correct? I...

Gaim Issues

Hey everyone, I was just wondering, how do you uninstall the version of Gaim that comes with Home v6.0a? I tried emerge -C gaim but that didnt work. Can you guys help me out here? Also, once I install the newest Gaim version, how do you make a shortcut to it? v6.0a has a shortcut when you right-clic...

Need some clarification

Hey everyone. Installed Gentoox, and it all works. I am running magic right now (how long does it take, i've been at it for like 15 mins now). After I run magic, is there anything else that needs to be updated? Also, what is the difference between running magic, emerge --sync, and emerge portage? I ...

Best adapter to use keyboard and mouse

Hey everyone, I was just wondering what is the cheapest way to use a keyboard and mouse on Gentoox, besides builing one yourself. I know they sell adapters and I was just curious which one works the best and which one is cheapest. Thanks in advance.

Choosing an install type with FTP install

Hey everyone, I just did an F: drive FTP install. I booted up the gentooxx.xbe and it's asking me for an install type. I tried doing this a long time ago and IIRC, I have to choose the HDD option. Right now the only options I'm seeing are DVD Boot, FatX, NetBoot, something else boot, and advanced. I...
