It is quite possible that mediacom's DHCP servers only give address leases to registered devices. If you have to provide your cable company your NIC's MAC address after an upgrade or device change than this is most likely the case. You can always call your ISP and ask to be sure that is the problem....

Did you power cycle the modem (unplug power, wait, wait more, plug in power) after plugging in your xbox? Many modems require a power cycle after being plugged into another computer. Also, some Cable ISPs do not support the ability to switch your modem to different computers, which is one reason why...

As I understood it you don't need to mod anything on the xbox to install it? This is true however it is the less common way of installing linux on your xbox. I commend your ambitions but I think you have some more research to do. Check out the information on xbox-scene. There are a number of tutori...

Hope it's alright if I post the answer to my own question. Here is how I mounted my native f partition from an install on the e partition: Pro root # mount /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part2 /mnt/fatx/f/ I am not terribly familiar with the /dev file system. I learned this path from watching spar...

I ran into another problem with my data rescue project. I cannot seem to mount the f partition. Here's what I get when I attempt to mount the native f partition from the new install on the e partition: Pro fatx # mount -t reiserfs /dev/hda55 /mnt/fatx/f/ mount: special device /dev/hda55 does not exi...

What message do you get from the Gentoox Loader?
I had a problem when I tried to load a stardust ISO burned onto a reused CDRW. I burned the ISO onto a new CDRW and it launched successfully.
What version of Loader are you using?

Best of luck,

Well I just happen to have a photo to share. Us geeks carry around photos of loved ones, pets, and modded xboxes in our electronic wallets (pda) you know ;)

Thanks orochi! I am well on my way to restoring my data with your help. My fsck'd install is native on F: I have installed the newest version of Pro onto E: and updated my loader. Now it just a matter getting that F: partition to mount and ftp the data to another system. Then I can reinstall Pro Nat...

Thanks, ShALLaX! I had a native install and an older version of loader. After updating to the latest loader, I was still selecting native, I didn't think to look under FatX for Sparkle. After reading the reply it all make sense suddenly. I'm now one step closer to rescuing the data from my older nat...

Loading Sparkle

How does one load sparkle? I have loaded the latest loader, copied 'sprkrd.gz' to E:\sprkrd.gz (/mnt/fatx/e/sprkrd.gz) and copied 'linuxboot.cfg' to E:\linuxboot.cfg (/mnt/fatx/e/linuxboot.cfg). I don't see sparkle as an option in the loader or in any sort of boot menu. I have searched high and low ...

Data Rescue and Recovery

My GentooX installation is fsck'd. I don't know how it got so bad and don't really want to spend more hours figuring it all out. The current state is, a failed eth0, USB keyboard not working and the display is unreadable on my 480p TV. Basically my system is inaccessible. It's my fault, I know, I am...
