you don't need a modchip as such but you do need an xbox that can run unsigned code, (either a modchip, tsop flash or software exploit). You can use any kind of cable, with the following limitations. If you use component cables you cannot use 480i The only HDTV mode you can get on a 1.6 xbox is 480p...

If you're going to use reiserfs4 I would recommend the following route. 1. put the xbox drive into a linux PC and boot into linux. 2. mount the rootfs and chroot across to it 3. Patch the kernel for reiser4 and install the reiser4 tools 4. fdisk and format the drive as you need, don't forget to incl...

technically you should use a straight cable to connect to your router if it has a switch (more than one LAN port) and a x-over if it has no switch, however most routers these days support auto mdx so you can use any cable. The easiest way to check is to plug in your xbox and look for a link light on...

you have to use composite, rgb, or svideo if you want an interlaced signal, the drivers don't support 480i over component cables

All USB tv cards are h/w mpeg2 encoders, there's no way you could get the video down the cable any other way, there just isn't the bandwidth

well actually it's a php problem, phpnuke is a nightmare for not escaping characters properly, it's just bad coding really, you don't see that kind of problem with phpbb.

To add to the above, I prefer reiserfs because I don't like wasting my harddrive space.
so I replace

Code: Select all

mke2fs -j /dev/hdx
with

Code: Select all

yes | mkreiserfs /dev/hdx

defraging non journaling filesystems is a bad idea, I've seen systems totally hosed because somebody defragged a big fat32 partition.

to get the second drive to work in linux you will need to
1. partition the drive with fdisk
2. create a filesystem on the drive (I recommend reiser but you can also use ext3, XFS or JFS
3. add an entry to fstab to make the drive mount on boot.

If you get stuck with any of these steps post back
