well, your drive does pass the 137gb barrier which may be causing problems. Also, afaik native install replaces F with a ext3/reiser fs. Its been a while since i've done a native install.

the blocking package; if you type

you should see a "B" next to the blocking package on the list of packages to install

if you used emerge as it should, you should not have needed to download any files (tar or otherwhise)

typically you would run


emerge -C <package name to remove>


and get rid of the blocking package and reemerge kopete

or, install it on your box like normal, then boot rescutoox and chroot it.

there is an application called memtester in portage that is a userland program for testing memory. However, it cant test memory thats currently in use, so in most cases, you wont be testing more than 10-25% of available memory
