Alright, so it's another part of the magic script that replaces my linuxboot.cfg with some canned one. It still wouldn't have left my gentoox able to boot.

I dunno, the title="Gentoox" section looks fairly destructive. But even if it's not xbvset, it IS something else.

xbvset, being the video mode settings? What's that got to do with it screwing with the root and init parts of linuxboot.cfg?

More like running `magic` makes the system unable to boot because it screws with linuxboot.cfg and replaces it with somebody else's values that don't relate to my installation whatsoever.

What exactly are all those profiles for? Mine was previously set on 2005.0 so that's what I re-set it to.

That full page warning it gives kind of freaks me out though. xbox root # emerge --pretend depclean *** WARNING *** --depclean is known to be broken. It is highly recommended *** WARNING *** that `emerge --update --newuse --deep world` be ran before *** WARNING *** commencing. However, using --depcl...

I fixed it, not too difficult. Post back with details of how you have gentoox installed and what it's doing and I'll see if I can help.

apparently, it didn't even manage to install sox through all of that. So I've got ALSA that I know of, and some other mystery packages that I can't identify on my own. What do you recommend I do to hunt down and remove them?

1, I want ALSA removed, sound support, all that GONE.
2, magic kills my system. It doesn't have a config for a fully native install, and trashes my linuxboot.cfg.

pretty basic...uninstall something installed via portage?

Is there a simple way to remove things I've installed via portage? I installed sox on my Gentoox Pro machine, which also had to install 7 other packages, including ALSA. I found a better way to solve my sound editing problem though, and want to remove all that stuff that was installed. How can I do ...

Thanks all, re-creating the symlink works great.

NEW PROBLEM THOUGH :x
It updated portage, and now the mofo can't find the kernel or something to boot from.
I plugged it in to my TV and I see that it fails "loading /vmlinuz". What do I do about THIS? Should I make a new topic?

emerge/portage broken? "ARCH is not set"

I ran "emerge sync", and now I can't emerge anything. I get this jibber jabber now when I try to run emerge. !!! /etc/make.profile is not a symlink and will probably prevent most merges. !!! It should point into a profile within /usr/portage/profiles/ !!! (You can safely ignore this messag...

I think it was just a corrupt filesystem on my machine somehow. After I fdisked and mkreiserfsd that partition and started over, everything went really well.

Eh, fdisked it anyways. It works so much better now; no troubles at all. I'm going to chalk this up to a bad initial formatting.
