Oke, i reinstalled firefox so it looks like i have a completely working box.
it took for ever to install though. something like 13 hours.
So that would meen with a lot of time it can all work out.

do what nobspangle said and it will work.
The only problem i have now is that firefox has disappeard.

I did exactly what you said. and it worked.

maybe its a dumb thing to say but you didn't by accident transfer them as asci instead of binary.

@nobspangle: is that emerge autoconf or emerge automake.
before i was told to do an emerge automake

Have you tried it again? Like starting from scratch.
maybe one file was copy over but is currupt.
check the files sizes.

vnc resolution can be changed in /home/gentoox/.vncstart
just change 640x480 to 800x600

@DOGSMAN Let met get this right. You did the "emerge -uD automake" and now your install is f*****. That sucks. I was just about to try it. I think i'll leave it for now. @nobspangle How can my system be out of data? If i've just done a new install. And magic fails at installing gdm. I'm us...

Did you ftp them to e:/ (not in a sub dir)
because that wil not work

or are you sure all files are there
i deleted them vmlinz by accident once and could not boot from hdd (duuuh)

lol, well i'm still awake and a hard at work. oke. i re installed. and ran magic. with out xfce4. And yes gdm failed again. Have you tried: clean install -> running magic --> gdm fails --> reboot --> "its all gone tits up" --> magic fix gdm && magic -->....

i think i'm going to try that. i don't have much hope but still....
i'll let you know how it goes.

I have the same problem. I did an install. After looking around to see what gentoox is like i was realy pleased. Then I ran magic. It rans a while.... like a long time. and then failed on gdm i attempted to fix it with "magic fix gdm && magic" but this fails again. and to make it w...
