Best version xbox to use as a server?
Now I'm only asking as I had a NIB xbox which had *never* been used set up as a server. It was using a crystal xbox motherboard (1.6) and so had no temperature sensor, anyways point being that after only about 50 hours uptime (that's EVER - I bought it for the case!) something inside popped and now ...

Hmmm...
Your *only* option with those cables is to run Home version 3.0c or lower. The reason being is that after this version Shallax changed the video 'output' (for want of a better explanation!) so as soon as a highdef kit is detected it switches to highdef mode. In 3.0c and before, everything was just '...

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/virt-mail-howto.xml I was running 5 virtual domains and email 'serving' for all of them on my Xbox a short while ago. I only swapped over to using Gentoo on an old PC as I had other plans for the Xbox to go into a Sega Universal arcade cabinet (with high res monitor) ru...

Forced video output
I know why the one bundled with home 3.0c worked.... there was no code for hdtv, it just forced the output as standard PAL/NTSC regardless of the AVPACK. I fear that once you upgrade your kernel, nothing will work at all. The problem is... as soon as the driver sees an HDTV AVPACK it shoots straigh...

Assuming you're using a router... Try manually entering your ISPs DNS servers. Come to think of it... Try that anyway even if you're using a modem! You can get the settings off your ISPs site in support. As for the slowness of SSH-ing... Haven't got a clue sorry... Maybe someone else can help? Pobster

Why not just do the ftp install? I assume you can network it to a PC seeing as you mentioned 'network cable'? If you're using a Thompson DVD drive in your xbox then YES expect weird goings on with reading any non-original disc. It may appear to work fine one minute and then suddenly be all crap the ...

Datel Powerboard compatibility?
Hey all I'm getting along quite nicely with Gentoox now :D So I've bought myself a Datel Powerboard off ebay. Problem is... That I've plugged it in and I don't get any response from Gentoox! Is there something I have to install to get the keyboard to work? Maybe a USB driver or something? The offica...

Now I am a n00b so don't take what I say as gospel or anything... But this is how I understand it: If you 'emerge *something*' then you're installing it onto your system. There's a database of programs/ packages/ etc available here When you 'emerge sync' you're putting a database of what's available...

I'm having this trouble too, using component cables into a standard tv through an AVPACK (and I don't want to have to use composite cables either!!!) How do I go about reinstalling the previous kernel (the one bundled in with home 3.0c) into my current installation. I've got a lot of stuff in it aga...

If you go into webmin there is sort of a tutorial under system documentation (search for vnc). Here's a short documentation from me...: :) Download a VNC package from here: http://www.realvnc.com Run the 'VNC viewer' program. Type in your Gentooxs' IP address as the target - 'gentoox' as the passwor...

It sounds like you've got it set up correctly... But... :!: Not exactly how it's supposed to be! I think you've probably (not definitely) got a conflict issue with your settings. Your ADSL modem by default is *supposed* to give itself the IP address of 192.168.0.1 (its something to do with internet ...

Okay looks like I was a little hasty I gather that it doesn't work because its not patched to work with the xbox. I found the remedy here: viewtopic.php?t=1520 in case anyone did the same silly thing!
