It looks like magic was created mostly because Shallax couldnt contribute xbox stuff to portage. My guess is that it would not have been the way to go for him had he been allowed to use portage to add xbox-specific stuff. I blame the gentoo team for that.

Sort of back on topic. Jakin, mikec and others, you might not like being told to search to find answers to your questions. Yes, it's a frustrating answer. Now let's look from the perspective of the people who are expected to answer your questions. As you've said, the gentoox community does not have ...

My guess as to why you didnt get any answer would be that your question is not GentooX-related at all.

At first glance I'd say http://www.xbox-scene.com would be more likely to answer your question.

For gaim to support MSN correctly you need to update it. version 0.77 works fine.

as root:

Code: Select all

emerge -u gaim

I typed in su - entered xbox and for the first time I got to root. Woo! Way to go! I typed xbvset and it did nothing so I typed magic and magic started. Sounds good. Even though I'm a somewhat experienced Linux user, I'm still a noob at the specifics of Gentoox. I guess that xbvset will be availabl...

That did it, thanks.

Just curious, is it normal that magic doesnt upgrade the kernel to 2.4.26?

Yep, that did happen, but i just copied the /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage file to its rightful location and bingo.
However for some reason with magic 'make modules_install' didnt work, I had to do this manually. Also, the sound doesnt work anymore, but I am still investigating the case.

I finally made it work! I needed standard cromwell 2.30. I found out that it uses the linuxboot.cfg located in /boot, and that this file would use a 2.4.20-xbox kernel that was in /boot instead of the 2.4.22-xbox that's in the root. So i changed the reference to the newer kernel. Also, I dont need a...

True enough, it didnt work. :( I really wonder what I'm doing wrong.. Thinking back on all that I've done I realize that when i copy the contents of rootfs into the root of /dev/hda2 (lets say that's the reiserfs one), there is another linuxboot.cfg in the /boot directory. Would that confuse cromwel...

No luck with that cromwell.

I'm thinking of restarting the whole process but switch the two partitions. So hda1 would be the 10 gig reiserfs partition, and hda2 the 256mb swap. I've got nothing to lose now, heh..

did you try the latest gentoox cromwell I know Shallax said he had added an option for the next stardust to install to the whole drive. The new cromwell may have that support. You're not supposed to be able to use the standard cromwell with gentoox because it doesn't support a large enough initrd. ...

I flashed the bios with the regular cromwell 2.30 from xbox-linux.sf.net and i can finally boot from the hard drive. The kernel seems to boot fine but the modules all have errors when loading, so no xpad or network for me when the "first boot" script starts, and I cannot do anything..
