480p support
Native support for 480p on the HDpack. And 720p/1080i if at all possible :o . It's just plain easier to use mine w/ 480p than making a VGA cable, 'cause I got an HDTV adapter (won't do 480i, though), and my HDTV cable box has DVI-D output, but the DVI-D output won't do 480i (so much for using Xbox D...

I would suggest
I would suggest going to the Gentoo Linux forums. Although Gentoo is for PC's, GentooX is heavily derived from it. I can't search the Gentoo Forums at the moment, because it's down for maintenence.

very difficult
You've obviously confused Windows with Linux. The closest thing to Windows on the Xbox is the default Xbox kernel, which is a less-bloated version of the Windows 2000 Kernel. If you need help doing the Xbox Linux install of GentooX, start by downloading the Home 2.1 ISO, burn it to CD-RW, and follow...

login w/o keyboard
The default configuration auto-logs into KDE. Most likely you set it to not auto-start the GUI, and thus it doesn't auto-login. You can either fix this back to auto-starting the GUI, or access it entirely via SSH & VNC. Or makeing/ordering a USB adapter. >>Howto turn the auto-start GUI back on<<...

Pick E: or F:
Pick E: or F: . E: is for savegames and F: empty. F: is where all the space you get from upgrading the Xbox hdd goes. So you prolly want to pick F:. You need Cromwell if you do the Native install. Otherwise, use any non-MS bios you want for E: or F: installs (ie Xecuter, EvoX, etc)

If..
If you want to boot GentooX while a non-Cromwell BIOS is operating, you have to run it from the EvoX dash menu. Stardust should boot, just as long as you burn an Xbox-readable Cd (cd-rw). It's not going to fry your system just from booting the Stardust CD. Unless you select 'native' install. And eve...

Semi-Automatic way
Here's the Semi-Automatic way of doing this: Step 1: Edit the F-Drive script on your system, or the one here . Step 2: Edit lines 40-47, detailed here: From: 40 echo "Checking disk space" 41 sleep 5 42 if [ `df /dev/hda55 | tail -n 1 | awk '{ print $4 }'` -lt 3400000 ]; then 43 clear 44 ec...

also
Also, the example of copying the rootfs and editing the bootloader yourself was what 'magic f-drive' does. You probably wouldn't want to do it manually

Yes, but...
Yes, you could move/copy the rootfs to F:, but you'd also have to edit the bootloader so that it looks for the roofs on F: instead of E: . IMHO, you're better off keeping it on E:, as there's far more free space (about 2x) on the E: partition when compared to the F: partition. Here's the partition l...

You can install the RPM util in Gentoo/X
(Step 1: 'emerge -p rpm' >pretend to install it to see dependencies (Step 2: 'emerge rpm' >install it if the dependencies look OK (Step 3: 'rpm --help' /or/ 'man rpm' /or/ 'info rpm' >get help on RPM commands (Step 4: an example to install an rpm is 'rpm -ivh --nodeps foo.rpm' [--nodeps] ignores dep...

If you buy a VGA conv. box...
If you buy a VGA converter box, buy one with S-Video & Component (480i). I have a Key-Digital clone they used to sell @ Lik-Sang. Mine only inputs 480p, 720p, and 1080i. I've only gotten GentooX to output in 480p by removing RivaFB in the Kernel and commenting out xbvinit in local.start - and on...

ftp in via evox
If you can, ftp into your xbox using EvoX or a boot CD and use ftp to switch kernels. You can even keep both on a seperate machine, and upload the one you want to use when you want to switch. Or, a more legal alternative would be to boot your machine into Linux mode (using Cromwell, since it auto-bo...

X w/o RivaFB? and using Xbox for file server @ Memphis fest
So I erased & upgraded to Gentoox Home 2.1 Integrated. I've already done the 480p "trick" once. Last time I did it, X wouldn't start. Probably because the xbv settings in xbvinit didn't get run. If I can't get it to do 480p with my vga adapter, I'll just have to use VNC.
